Summit Health, a two-hospital system in Chambersburg, Pa., and six-hospital sys- tem WellSpan Health in York, Pa., signed an affiliation agreement, WellSpan an- nounced June 29. Humana, TPG Capital and Welsh, Car- son, Anderson & Stowe completed their acquisition of Louisville, Ky.-based post- acute care provider Kindred Healthcare for $4.1 billion in cash, including assump- tion of debt. Los Angeles-based Pacific Alliance Med- ical Center, which closed last November due to costs related to retrofitting its facil- ities to meet the state's seismic standards, was recently purchased by a physician group for $33 million. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare entered into a nonbinding letter of intent to sell Lafayette, La.-based Women's & Chil- dren's Hospital to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, the Lafay- ette-based hospital announced June 28. Pittsburgh-based UPMC inked a five-year agreement to assist in the planning and operating of an expanded cancer center at a private hospital in Beijing, the health system announced June 27. The Miami Medical Center filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March, and the 67-bed hospital was re- cently sold in auction. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems inked a definitive agreement June 26 to sell Oklahoma City-based Al- lianceHealth Deaconess to a subsidiary of Integris Health. Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System revealed plans to acquire Beaver Dam (Wis.) Community Hospitals, Marshfield Clinic announced June 12. Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine and Crystal Lake, Ill.-based Centegra Health System signed a definitive agree- ment to merge, Northwestern announced June 12. Local residents voted to sell bankrupt Sur- prise Valley Hospital in Cedarville, Calif., to a 34-year-old entrepreneur who runs two labs in Denver. Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica has re- portedly begun the process to acquire Toledo-based HCR ManorCare, the sec- ond-largest post-acute and long-term care provider in the U.S. Bridgeport (Conn.) Hospital, part of Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health, is in talks to ac- quire Milford (Conn.) Hospital, Yale New Haven Health announced June 6. Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua Health signed a definitive agreement to acquire Lourdes Health System from Carbondale, Pa.- based Maxis Health, a subsidiary of Livo- nia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, the organi- zations announced June 5. Community Health Systems sold three hospitals in Tennessee to Jackson-based West Tennessee Healthcare on June 1. Boston-based Partners HealthCare and Providence, R.I.-based Care New En- gland announced the signing of a defin- itive agreement May 23, formalizing Part- ners' intent to acquire CNE. The Elizabethtown, Ky.-based Hardin Me- morial Hospital board of trustees voted to approve the health system's sale to Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health. The city of Massillon, Ohio, completed its purchase of Massillon-based Affinity Medical Center — which closed earlier this year — and its related assets. The Federal Trade Commission approved the proposed partnership agreement be- tween Decatur, Ga.-based DeKalb Medi- cal and Emory Healthcare. Hospital and health system executive moves Ginger Williams, MD, president and CEO of Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Mich., is resigning Aug. 3. Kirkland, Wash.-based Evergreen- Health named Amy Beiter, MD, CEO, effective Aug. 22. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health selected Kim Braxl Cole to serve as CFO of Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach, Fla. Rainy Lake Medical Center in Interna- tional Falls, Minn., hired Robert Pastor to serve as CEO. San Antonio-based Methodist Health- care Ministries of South Texas appoint- ed Jaime Wesolowski president and CEO. St. Louis-based Ascension named Keith Vander Kolk health system pres- ident and CEO of its Baltimore/Wash- ington Ministry Market. In this role, he will oversee Saint Agnes Healthcare in Baltimore and Providence Health Sys- tem in Washington, D.C. Sutter Roseville (Calif.) Medical Center appointed Brian Alexander CEO. The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus in Topeka selected Steve Anderson to serve as CEO, ef- fective July 23. San Andreas, Calif.-based Mark Twain Medical Center President and CEO Robert Diehl resigned July 31. West Reading, Pa.-based Tower Health appointed William Jennings presi- dent and CEO of Reading (Pa.) Hospi- tal, effective Oct. 15, 2018. Claudia A. Eisenmann, CEO of Wil- barger General Hospital in Vernon, Tex- as, will resign Sept. 7.
