32 QUALITY & ACCREDITATION Surgery Center of Long Beach to Earn 1st Ever AAAHC Orthopedic Certification By Eric Oliver T he Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care awarded its first ever Center of Excellence Award in Orthopae- dic Certification to e Surgery Center of Long Beach (Calif.). Here's what you should know: 1. e AmSurg-affiliated center was the first surgery center to receive AAAHC's new certification. e certification recognizes the surgery center's high-quality orthopedic services. 2. AAAHC developed the certification in response to growing demand from accredited centers. To become a Center of Excellence, an ASC must be AAAHC accredited and must meet a number of relevant criteria. 3. e certificate has two levels of recognition. Surgery Center of Long Beach achieved the advanced certification, "which establishes the center's ability to perform complex procedures safely and effectively as well as care for patients that are more complex." AAAHC's Vice President of Accreditation Services Tess Poland, RN, said, "We are pleased to award the Surgery Center of Long Beach our inaugural Orthopaedic Certification for demonstrating excellence in orthopedic care and compliance with rigorous indus- try standards.
